10th, 11th, & 12th Grade - The Diesel Technology program includes the study of the repair and maintenance of diesel engines and drive trains including: diagnostics, overhaul and maintenance of automotive, agricultural, trucking, heavy equipment and recreational vehicles.  Students are able to prepare and test for the PA State Inspection License.

The need for qualified technicians is critical in the diesel field.  Employment opportunities exist in trucking, automotive, agriculture, heavy equipment and recreational vehicle repair facilities.  Technical advancements have increased the need in the field for technicians with skills ranging from basic maintenance to advanced diesel and electronics experience.  Completers of this program may enter the workforce in entry-level technician jobs or further their education with related college studies.

Students entering the Diesel Technology program should:

  • be physically able to work in awkward and cramped spaces
  • be able to master and apply basic mechanical principals
  • have normal resistance to various chemicals, solvents and noise levels
  • have average or higher aptitudes in verbal, abstract, numerical and mechanical reasoning

Mr. Nick Shearer

Mr. Shearer has been teaching at Crawford County CTC since 2007. He is a graduate of the Diesel Technology Program at the former Crawford County AVTS. Mr. Shearer is a certified John Deere Technician and worked for them before becoming an instructor. He is a licensed private pilot and is a certified Master Technician through the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE).

Mr. Shearer is the State Inspection instructor for Crawford County CTC's Adult Evening Program. He is currently enrolled in the Vocational Instructor program at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
