11th & 12th Grade - The Electrical Occupations program provides electrical instruction in the residential wiring, industrial/commercial wiring, motor control, data communication wiring, conduit bending, utility/lineman wiring, and low voltage controls, with an emphasis placed on all current National Electrical Code and local IEC building code requirements/standards. All senior Electrial Occupations students will be required to take the NOCTI (National Occupational Competency Testing Institute) test. The test is designed to measure the level of the student's knowledge in the electrical field. Students pursuing this field should show strong communtication, mechanical and math skills.

The following areas are example of employment opportunities/options in the Electrical field, many of these have past graduates employed:

Applicants should be strong or knowledgeable in the following skill levels and possess certain required physical traits:

  • Math (preferably Algebra I)
  • Good mechanical skills
  • Good hand eye coordination
  • Maintian adequate color determination
  • Good communication skills
  • Maintain good hygiene

The Electrical Occupations class maintains a Duty/Task curriculum, mandated by the Department of Education and continually updated by the Electrical Occupations Advisory Committee to meet current Electrical standards.

Instructional Sequence Chart

The electrical field requires various electricians to possess electrical certification; this could require stringent on-the-job training with numerous basic college classes required. Many state, and local governments require electricians to have or maintain required electrical certification.


PA Skills Certificate

Mr. Rod Frazier

Mr. Frazier has been teaching high school and adult students at Crawford County Career and Technical Center for 19 years. Before becoming a teacher, he worked for U. S. Bronze Foundry and Machine, Inc. (formerly ABEX Corporation) for 23 years. While there, Mr. Frazier, became the Maintenance Superintendent of Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic and Pneumatic Maintenance Personnel. He is a graduate of Saegertown High School and received his Vocational I and II Instructor Teaching Certification from the PA Department of Education through Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Frazier has continued his education through Edinboro University, Thiel College and various Electrical/Electronics courses.

While working for Crawford County CTC, Mr. Frazier has been the Assistant Night School Director, School Safety Director, and VICA (SkillsUSA) Advisor.

Students are required to have the following at the start of the school year:

  • Three inch three ring binder for class portfolio
  • One inch three ring binder for NOCTI notes
  • Hard toed shoes will be required for various competencies
  • Thin wall conduit bender, for bending 1/2-inch thin wall conduit
  • Graph tablet 1/4-inch for drawing electrical circuits.
  • Colored pencils for drawing electrical circuits. (red,green,black,blue)
  • Basic electrical hand tools of good quality.
  • An electrical test meter should be part of the students tool requirement
