11th and 12th Grade - Health Occupations provides students with the knowledge and skills in health sciences and health technologies to pursue employment options in a variety of health care settings. Health Occupation Education contributes to academic learning through an emphasis on the application of math, science, reading, writing, and communication. Work-based learning activities provide the student with a hands-on experience.

Students also learn clinical skills that are applicable toward the state-tested nurse aide exam. In addition, they receive exposure to the administrative duties of health care including typing, computer applications, accountability, and responsibility.

Courses include: Introduction to Health Occupations, Anatomy and Physiology, safety and infection control practices, medical terminology, HIPPA Laws, CPR/First Aid, health care core skills, Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Curriculum, nutrition, and guest speakers from local health community.

Mrs. Peggy Massung

Mrs. Massung began teaching at Crawford County Career and Technical Center in 2007. She is a graduate of the former Crawford County Area Vocational Technical School Practical Nursing Program, class of 1991.

Mrs. Massung studied at Edinboro University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree. She has ten years experience in long term care and seven years experience in acute care.

Junior Year

  • Large 3 ring binder
  • Dark blue scrub top and bottom
  • White above the ankle socks
  • Watch with minute hand
  • Hepatitis inoculation
  • CHRI (Criminal history record investigation) Cost $10 required by State for Fall enrollment in Nurse Aide Class

Senior Year

  • 2 Step Mantoux (TB test. Cost may be covered by insurance)
  • Doctor’s physical (many times covered by insurance)
  • Malpractice insurance $15.00
  • State Nurse Aide Test $102.00

 

 

Health Occupations provides students with the technical knowledge and skills to pursue a career in a variety of health care settings including: hospital, doctor’s office, nursing home or home health care.  Many students pursue further education in related two-year and four-year college programs.

A student interested in Health Occupations should:

  • Have a genuine interest in the care and comfort of others
  • Have average or above academic ability in reading, writing, math and science
  • Be willing to take high level math and science courses at their sending school
