Educator-In-The-Workplace

Act 48 Program Overview

Educator in the Workplace (EIW) is a summer externship program that allows teachers to spend five days in a business or industry environment to adequately prepare all students, our future workforce, for future employment. Educators must have timely and accurate information and a clear understanding of the academic and technical skills needed on the job. The best place to get this information is from the experts in the field, "on-the-job". This project will connect school-based and work-base learning as described in the program requirements of the School-to-Work Opportunities Act to make education relevant for all students.

This project will improve our students' education by assisting in bringing school-based and work-based learning closer together and making education relevant. As the future workforce, students need help making the connections between what they do in the classroom and how the classroom lesson will apply in the world of work. Educator in the Workplace is an experiential learning opportunity for the classroom teacher that also allows the teacher to make the connection between what they teach and how the lessons apply in the "real-world".

Course Objectives
  • Learn about ALL aspects of the industry, including planning, finance, management, production, technology, labor issues, community issues, safety and environmental concerns.
