Educator-In-The-Workplace Graduate Course

Each participant must complete 45 hours of in-program work and 45 hours of out-of-program work to receive the IU graduate credits.

The Educator-in-the-Workplace Graduate Course will include a pre and post meeting. each participant must attend the orientation session on June 22, 2005 at the Crawford County Community Center, Meadville from 8 A.M. - 10 A.M. and the debriefing session on August 10, 2005 at the Stable Pit & Pub, Conneaut Lake from 12 p.m. - 3 p.m.

In addition to these meetings educators will be required to participate in a week-long workplace externship in a field that directly relates to their teaching subject area. These externships will be scheduled from July 1 through July 30th and will involve a commitment to a 5-day/40 hour work week "on-the-job" training.

Each week-long externship will be individually scheduled during the July 1 through July 30th Period. Educators are encouraged to contact potential sites they may be interested in visiting to make tentative arrangements. The School-to-Work office will then follow-up with additional information.

From the "on-the-job" training and information obtained through required readings, educators will develop a lesson plan, develop an action plan, keep a daily journal during the week-long externship, conduct research at community agencies, prepare a written paper and give oral presentations about their experience to at least two community groups.

Educators must also complete two program evaluations forms:
  • Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit #5 Graduate Course Evaluation Form
  • Crawford County School-to-Work Educator Evaluation form

All activities and paperwork must be completed and handed in to the School-to-Work office no later than the debriefing session on Wednesday, August 10th. Once all paperwork has been completed, letters of completion will be sent to confirm that the requirements of the program were met. IU graduate credits will be issued on a pass/fail basis.
